Everything You Need to Know about the Tumbleweed Music Festival in Richland

When and Where

The 2017 Tumbleweed Music Festival will take place on September 1-3 at the Howard Amon Park, a gorgeous, scenic area located along the banks of the Columbia River.

History of the Tumbleweed Music Festival

The origins of this event can be traced back to the late 1970s, when John and Micki Perry moved to the Tri-Cities from the Hudson Valley in New York, an area that thrived on folk music and dancing.  The Perrys were disappointed when they didn’t find a similar scene here, so decided to introduce this art form to the local community.  In 1987, they were able to host their first concert with the help of some newfound friends who were intrigued by this style of music as well.  Over the years, these live concerts slowly gained popularity and transformed into the widely-known festival that it is today!

Tumbleweed Music Festival Events

The main feature of this festival is the music!  Five different stages will be spread throughout the park to provide audiences with a variety of tunes.  Swing and do-si-do your way through many different contra dances and attend workshops that teach all kinds of topics, like songwriting and dancing.  Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat while you browse the many arts and crafts vendors!

About the Three Rivers Folklife Society

For over twenty years now, this non-profit organization has been providing fun and fellowship to the entire region of Southeast Washington.  The many events of the Three Rivers Folklife Society include their signature Tumbleweed Music Festival along with additional concerts, dances, song circles, picnics, and much more.  This is a great way to connect with other local community members and enjoy some beautiful music and dancing.
