3 of the Most Fun Things to Do at the Chamna Natural Preserve

  1. Journey Through the Trails

Miles of trails are spread throughout the Chamna Natural Preserve to create the perfect day for any enthusiastic explorer.  You can choose to hike, bike, walk, or even go horseback riding through these paths stretched throughout the region.  Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also available during the snowy winter months.  A Chamna Natural Preserve map is displayed at the entrance to assist you in planning your journey through the area!  Dogs are permitted here as long as they are leashed as their owners clean up after them.

  1. Observe Local Wildlife

Explosions of color from the numerous plants and animals of this area combine to create the most picturesque setting you’ve ever seen.  The Chamna Nature Preserve is filled with beautiful, blooming rose bushes, red-tailed hawks sporting their bright feathers, and vibrant butterflies drifting through the vivid blue sky.  Other animals that you might glimpse include river otters, raccoons, minks, coyotes, jackrabbits, and more.  Countless species of birds inhabit this area as well, such as sparrows, pelicans, geese, osprey, ducks, pheasants, and many others.

  1. Get on the Water

The adjacent rivers make this area the ideal spot for water activities as well.  The Tapteal Water Trail is a popular place for kayaking and canoeing; it begins at Bateman Island and winds its way all the way up to Benton City.  This a great way to see more of Washington’s magnificent scenery as well.  Check out Columbia Kayak Adventures for details about rentals and guided tours!
