One of our favorite places for wine tasting and an outdoor lunch is Waterbrook Winery. The expansive estate and visitor’s center is not only a space to learn about Washington wine but also one of the most picturesque backdrops for tasting some fine examples of varietals and terroir. The founders of Waterbrook Winery were pioneers in Walla Walla winemaking and helped to create a community of like-minded farmers and producers to put this area on the map.
Since its humble beginnings in 1984, Waterbrook Winery has become a fixture in the Walla Walla and Columbia Valleys with award-winning wines, many with 90+ points. The estate vineyards have plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Chardonnay. As they say at Waterbrok Winery, a glass of wine here is “what Washington tastes like.”
As a guest at Cameo Heights Mansion, the premier Walla Walla Bed and Breakfast, you’ll be a quick, scenic 20-minute drive to Waterbrook Winery. We suggest planning a tasting paired with lunch; they have amazing farm-to-table sandwiches and boards. Be sure to join us at the mansion for our complimentary breakfast before setting out on your wine tasting adventures. And your romantic guest suite will be awaiting your return with comfortable beds dressed in fine linens, luxurious bathrooms with jetted tubs, and high-end amenities to make your stay the best it can be.
Head to Waterbrook Winery for a Tasting and Tour
Waterbrook Winery is voted a Traveler’s Choice on TripAdvisor for 2022, with excellent reviews for ambiance and food options. The panoramic views of their sprawling grounds with a lovely pond and willow trees will be the first thing you notice. Find a covered cabana with a water view or, in the chillier months, a coveted spot by the outdoor fireplace to enjoy your tasting best. Take your pick from the Icon, Reserve, or White & Rose Flights, all including four pours from the Iconic Waterbrook Winery label.
The food offerings are fresh and creative. The chef utilizes produce and products from the winery’s own farm and surrounding farms, keeping the fare as local as possible. For a lighter snack, go for cheese and charcuterie options with tasty accouterments. Suppose you’d like a hearty meal (a good idea when tasting at several wineries in one day). In that case, the Waterbrook Winery burger is a must with bacon merlot jam, smoked cheddar, aioli, and onion strings all tucked into a pillowy brioche bun.
After your wine tasting and lunch, feel free to stroll the grounds and check out the retail wine shop. And then it’s on to the next stop in Walla Walla!
