Pictured above in the wood boxes is our latest garden venture. Since our natural soil here is high PH alkaline type soil, it doesn’t lend itself real well to many garden plants that prefer a neutral or slightly acid so we are growing them in above ground boxes with an enriched soil of 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 compost, 1/3 sandy loam soil.
On April 21, 2015 we planted our new garden. It contains tomatoes, peppers, swiss chard, peas, beans, carrots, radishes, three varieties of potatoes, broccoli, cauliflowers, cabbage, lettuce, beets, turnips, and there is still room for a few more things later such as corn. We are trying to grow many of the vegetables we prepare in our dinners and breakfasts so visiting guests will have a true “Farm-to-Table” dining experience.
Thus, as Frank Sinatra sang “We have high hopes!”, we invite you to stay tuned. Soon these lovely vegetables will be showing up in your meals at the Mansion as part of our “Farm to Table” dining experience.
A parting thought: “We believe the food should not only be good but do good.” (Food to Table Catering)
