The Pendleton Roundup History
The initial Pendleton Roundup took place all the way back in 1910 when a group of locals gathered together to celebrate some of their favorite pastimes. An instant success, this festival steadily grew throughout the years, drawing people from far and wide to both watch and participate in these exciting competitions. Today, this is a world-famous event!
When and Where
The Pendleton Roundup takes place every year during the second week of September, in Pendleton, Oregon. While 2019 Pendleton Roundup Rodeo might only take place from September 7 to 14, the fun really begins on September 7th with a full week of awesome events!
Pendleton Roundup Events
The kick-off to the festivities starts with the Dress-Up Parade, which features locals showing off their best cowboy gear. You’ll also see some decorative floats or cars glide down the parade. Later that day, the Kick-Off Concert will take place. Previous concerts have featured Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, and Scotty McCreery!
Other great festival events include the Happy Canyon Indian Pagent, which details the lives of the Native people who once inhabited this region, as well as the wild frontier days that followed. Of course, the Roundup is the most popular attraction, with different competitive events that will feature the talents of the best rodeo riders in the United States! Watch barrel racings, Saddle Bronc riding, and wild cow milking.
