Tour Washington Wine Country This Summer

Though still lesser known than the Willamette and Napa Valleys, our neighbors to the south, Washington Wine Country has been building a solid reputation for exceptional wines. When most people think of Washington State, they picture foggy afternoons, rainy days, and temperate weather. However, that’s not what you’ll find in the eastern portion of Washington State, which is where the majority of vineyards and wineries are found.

There are, of course, a number of distinct regions within Washington wine country, with Walla Walla not least among them. Walla Walla is located around 2.5 from Spokane, 4 hours from Seattle, and 4.5 hours from Portland, but it’s even quicker if you take a quick flight over. Either way, it’s an easy getaway from two of our region’s biggest metropolitan areas. What awaits is not just delicious wine, but plenty of incredible restaurants, shops, and activities, not to mention, of course, our luxurious hotel.

Cameo Heights Mansion is a destination unlike any other. Why take our word for it? Read our reviews, and you’ll soon begin to see that the opportunity to stay here is a special one.  Take the leap, and book your room at our hotel near Walla Walla today!

See the Best of Washington Wine Country

Within Washington Wine Country, there are three distinct regions; Yakima, Tri-Cities, and the Walla Walla Valley. Each of these regions is broken down further into AVA’s, of which there are 13 distinct growing regions. Though Washington is a relative newcomer when compared with well-established areas like Napa Valley, it’s already been ranked as one of the top wine-growing regions in the world.

In total, Washington wine country is home to more than 60,000 acres of vineyards, most of the vinifera variety, which is well suited to the state’s climate and geography. Most winegrowers in Washington focus their efforts on Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, but there are of course a broad range of other red and white wines made here. Walla Walla, in particular, is known for its robust red blends and Cabernet Sauvignon. And, not to brag about the delightful wines produced here, but overall, Washington wines have received a higher percentage of high scores from principal wine publications than other leading wine regions.

Awards aside, we think the best way to truly get an appreciation for these delicious Washington wines is to take a wine tour.  At Cameo Heights Mansion, we believe in the value of seamless travel planning that is arranged well before your arrival.  It cuts down on any stress, worry, and last-minute scrambling on your behalf, and ensures you have the best access to Walla Walla wineries that you deserve.  That’s why we’re pleased to work with you to arrange for private wine tours, customized to your tastes, in the comfort of our private limo.

Beyond taking a customized wine tour, there are also a number of wineries and tasting rooms in downtown Walla Walla.  Spending an afternoon moving from tasting room to tasting room, as you get to know the quaint streets of this charming destination, is a perfectly wonderful way to experience life in Washington’s wine country.

Seattle Magazine has put together a wonderful series of articles on what it’s really like to experience Washington’s wine country. In it, they refer to Walla Walla as “the beating heart of Washington wine,” a notion we couldn’t have said better ourselves. In the article, they reference visits to some of Walla Walla’s most prominent wineries, including Dunham Cellars, Charles Smith Wines, Tero Estates, and Amavi Cellars.
